🔎 Definition:

Emergency contraception

Emergency contraception: There are two main methods of emergency contraception: the morning-after pill (such as Plan B) and the copper IUD. Both options can be used after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. The morning-after pill should be taken as soon as possible after intercourse (maximum 120 hours). It acts by delaying ovulation for 7 days, thus preventing fertilization and thus a possible pregnancy.
