The menstrual cycle is a hormonal process lasting between 21 and 35 days, during which the uterus prepares for a possible pregnancy. It comprises four main phases: menstruation, follicular phase, ovulation and luteal phase; if fertilization does not occur, the cycle ends with menstruation.
